Appeal for First Hand Stories of D-Day
In July and August, the Emsworth Museum will be holding an exhibition commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings and how they affected local residents. Our aim is to include as many first-hand accounts from Emsworth residents as possible. A number of interviews with residents who were either living here at the time or who participated in the landings were recorded back in 2014 for the 70th Anniversary Exhibition.
However, we still want to capture and incorporate more personal stories and would therefore like to talk to:
- Local residents who were in the area in the months prior to and on D-Day itself
- Veterans who took part in the landings or the preparation for them
- Relatives of those involved who have records or memorabilia relating to the time.
- Anyone who has knowledge of the work in the shipyards and the conditions in the harbour.
