Exhibition – Margaret Pole and Warblington Castle

April 3 @ 10:30 AM May 25 @ 4:30 PM

This exhibition traces the tumultuous life of Margaret Pole Countess of Salisbury (14 August 1473 – 27 May 1541).  In 1517, Margaret commissioned the building of Warblington Castle, Hampshire, which would become her principal seat.

The destruction of Warblington Castle during the Civil War and its subsequent use as a quarry in the 18th century have left us with a very incomplete picture of what her castle might have been like.     Using 16th century records, the exhibition shows how spectacular the castle would have once been.    Margaret Pole’s Chantry and Chapel in Christchurch Priory gives us a glimpse of the standard of living to which she was accustomed.

The exhibition is open:

Saturdays and Bank Holidays 10:30am to 4:30pm

Sundays 1:30pm to 4:30pm
