This interesting and very informative exhibition was opened by Alan House, retired Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Hampshire on Saturday 31st August in conjunction with the Emsworth Fire Station Open Day. Mr House served 30 years in the fire service and is the driving force behind the Hampshire Police and Fire Heritage Trust.
A number of items on display in this exhibition have been lent by the Trust including 2 uniforms – one early 20th century the other from the 1970s – showing that because wool will not burn, the uniform changed very little for many years. Photographs, documents and artefacts on display illustrate the history of the Emsworth Fire Brigade from 1885 to the present day.
Emsworth Museum, 10B North Street is open until 27th October on Saturdays 10.30am – 4.30pm and on Sundays 1.30pm – 4.30pm. Admission is free. A stairlift is available.
