In 1901 the Dean of Winchester became ill at a mayoral banquet. Emsworth supplied oysters were found to have typhoid and be the cause. The harbour was closed until 1916 when Thornham sewage plant was commissioned. Local personalities and fishermen give their testimony on the oyster fishing in more recent times.
