Description
In February 1944, during the second world war, Private Ernie Foster of the Fifth Hampshire Regiment, 46th Division, an Emsworth man, rescued a baby boy whose mother was sadly killed in the shelling of Suio by the Germans. Then in 1986 Ernest, re-visited Suio and found the Italian boy, now a man, Alessandro Lefano, who knew of Ernest's brave act from his father. Suio has always had one nameless piazza, and in due course Lefano had the idea to name it after his saviour.
